Rosemarie Fritzl. As guilty as her husband?
I’m angry today and so I’m venting. You might want to sit down for this. I have alot of things on my mind that I’d like to drop in a radioactive sewer. Max Clifford and www.trainline.com for starters. Both of them are lousy lying bastards in my book and deserve death. We’ll get onto them another day because tonight I’m puzzled, vexed and annoyed at the press coverage of Rosemarie Fritzl who is either the stupidest or evilest woman on earth.
Basically Rosemarie lived with her beloved husband Josef Fritzl – a retired Austrian engineer – and, apparently unbeknownst to her, her imprisoned daughter and five grandchildren who lived in the basement and were systematically raped by her husband for 24 years. 24 years! That’s a mighty long time for someone to be stupid. Some would argue I’ve achieved this feat for 29 years but I’d like to point out that – unless I’m very much mistaken – that no one in my family is a homicidal maniac. I would have noticed. Admittedly I haven’t seen my father for over 10 years but I’d like to think that if my Mum kept him in the loft of our family home I would have noticed. My mum once fed chicken to her handbag so I think she would have slipped up at some point.
Anyway the reason I’m angry is the papers refuse to speculate as to her involvement in the case, instead choosing to make non committal statements at the end of each article to the effect of ‘Investigators do not suspect Rosemarie as being aware of his crimes.’ Even if she is innocent as a cherub her complete witless stupidity should be scrutinised under a magnifine glass. I’d like to point out a few things noted in the court case:-
1) Christine (Rosemarie’s sister) said that all the family knew that Fritzl withdrew for hours to his “cellar” at the back of the garden – the site of his workshop and office, and of the well-hidden entrance to the dungeon.
“Every day at 9am Sepp would go to the cellar, supposedly to produce blueprints for machines he had been commissioned to build.” Often he even stayed there overnight, she said, telling his wife under no circumstances was he to be disturbed. “Rosi was not even allowed to bring him a cup of coffee.”
Now forgive me for being blase but if a member of my family built a bunker in the back garden, complete with toilet, kitchen and high tech timed security door, I’d be FUCKING suspicious. If my daughter then mysteriously disappeared, especially as my husband was at this point a convicted rapist who’d spent two years in jail, I’d start getting worried. I’d at least ask a few questions and/or nag him to death. Now if we suspend disbelief and imagine his wife accepted this as just her loveable husband being ‘eccentric’ (even though he had comedy evil rapist eyebrows) then I’d still get suspicious of the following:-
a) The number of plates he was bringing back and forth form the ’shed.’
“Two meals again dear? Ohhh you are a funny one dear.”
b) The laundry he was bringing back and forth from the ’shed.’
“More clean sheets Josef? You’ll be the death of me! Best get some more detergent. Its almost like you’re eating it.”
c) The electricity bill for the fucking shed.
d) The fact that for 24 years I’d never seen inside the shed. Personally I’m a gossip whore. If my other half had a secret bunker I’d NEED to see it. I would nag nag nag my husband to let me see the shed. “Just a peak!” It would be like heroin. If he wouldn’t tell me I’d have told the police he was a terrorist just so I could snatch a peak inside as hey kicked the door down. It would be agony. That would teach him to keep secrets from me.
e) Investigators also indicate that Rosemarie believed her daughter was alive due to a phone call she received from her daughter in 1994. However the phone call was made by Josef.
Jesus wept.
What sort of wife cannot recognise her own husband on the phone putting on a woman’s voice? She must literally have two fucking brain cells to rub together.
Now I don’t know about you but when I’m annoyed with my flatmates, and if you house share you will , you will monitor those scrotes like an anal hawk. If my flatmates don’t take the bins out for two days straight I’ll notice it. If they use all my milk I will instinctively know. If they aren’t pulling their weight you will imagine killing them in a thousand ways. THERE IS NO WAY IN GODS GREEN EARTH that if I lived with someone for 24 years I wouldn’t notice that they were supporting six additional individuals in a glorified shed. I’d notice in a week. Rosemarie (who shares a name with both Rosemarie West AND Josef Fritzl – guilty!) is either guilty of the most supreme stupidity in the world – stupider even than the time Laura at work asked me “What is the French for croissant?” – or is a complete evil sinister maniac who turned a blind eye to the most sickening depravity imaginable.
Either way she should be dragged through the mud and beaten with a stick. If the newspapers (i.e. Max Clifford) are trying to make us believe Jack Tweed is a ‘knight in shining armour’ (The Sun tm) and that Jade Goody is the ‘post modern Marilyn Munroe’ (The Mirror tm) then surely they can spare some column inches for Rosemarie?
I agree. One thing though; Rosemarie’s sister didn’t speak of her sister’s marriage as a good one. The’ beloved husband’ stuff isn’t accurate. I expect it was more like; if he was busy somewhere else, she & the kids were safe from his attentions for awhile. I expect she simply accepted that time gratefully.
I also think she had the brains of a cheese sandwich. And I think she turned her face (attention) away when he was ‘disciplining’ his kids, when he spent 2 years in prison, when he ’sexually attacked’ Elizabeth. She appears to have inhabited that place I don’t understand (and have an overwhelming desire to inflict my own pummeling) in which abused women stay with their abuser. When it’s just them they have, but as soon as they stay whilst knowing their children are being harmed I want to strangle them myself. (And don’t get on my case about the abuse syndrome, their are plenty of abused women who find the strength to leave when their children become targets. Though politically incorrect, I suggest there is some bit of selfishness in that.
From what I’ve read, Rosemarie’s reason to live (during and since the dungeon exposure) was ‘her’ children. SHE didn’t have anymore children at home, except the one son who is mentally challenged. So ‘her’ children she lives for are actually Elizabeth’s. Note how Elizabeth was upset that her ‘upstairs kids’ kept calling Rosemarie mom. Rosemarie was never their mom. From the beginning, she could have had them call her grandma. She would still have raised them. They knew (were told) their mother had abandoned them. They would still have loved her. I put it to everyone; Rosemarie was glad for those children and considers them hers (giving her vested interest in keeping herself looking the other way and keeping Elizabeth out of the picture)
I agree completey. My ‘beloved’ husband statement was thoroughly tongue and cheek.
From everything I’ve read he ruled the household with an iron fist and had zero tolerance. I find it hard to understand why anyone would stay with someone with such a violent track record, particulalry when they had the opportunity to flee whilst he was in jail.
But I can try and understand why people stay with abusive partners. What I can’t understand is that why, for 24 years, did she never pick up the phone to the police? An annonymous call?
I’m curious to see what happens with this case. I can’t believe she wasn’t complicit on some level. It beggers belief.

It appears to be self censorship to avoid being accused, or possible even charged/sued, defaming an ‘domestic violence’ victim. Not that they need much encouragement to have massive double standards when reporting about men or women.
Many women, at least in Australia, have been getting away with killing their husbands on the pretext of spousal abuse or self defense and the press has fully supported this also.
I think Jeannie hit the nail on the head when she pointed out the devils bargain that Rosmarie most likely made for ‘her’ children.
I am confident that blogs etc like yours will force at least one major newspaper, probably owned by Rupe, to finally allow a reporter to look into and question this womans innocence.
Only then might the police be forced to question this woman as a suspect.
by the way, do you know if there has been any questioning of her innocence in the German press? Surely there must have been before the police declared her innocence, it would be interesting to see what date the hush up occurred.
As far as the press in Austria, the local police and the general feeling in Austria (that which I pick up from reading anyway) It seems remarkably naive to me. Of course unwilling to take this topic on, but also very naive. Remember the police saying Rosemarie couldn’t possibly have known ‘because what woman knowing this would allow it to continue?’ I don’t know where everyone else lives, but in the US we’ve gotten a little more open about discussing sexual abuse and related subjects. It appears to me that Austria has a complex, maybe relating to it’s role in the Holocaust, but at any rate, as an example; if Austria were an individual person I’d say there were blows to self esteem and the need to project a ‘we’re ok’ image while at the same time maintaining strong barriers of self protection. Maybe we americans are over-the-top with our therapy and self help preoccupations, but at least we’ve taken on such touchy situations as child abuse in the Catholic priesthood, and in general seem more willing to pull the protective covers off situations of sexual abuse of all kinds. The pope is in danger of finally affecting the alienation of the american catholics with such pronouncements as his upholding of the excommunications of the doctors and mother of a 9 yr. old who was made pregnant with twins at age 8 by her abusive stepfather, and on top of that saying the sexual abuse over years wasn’t worthy of excommunication and of traveling through africa exhorting the people against the use of condoms to help protect people from AIDS. Maybe I just don’t get enough news from around the world, though I read BBC so am not just stuck with american news, but I haven’t heard any uprising of negative reaction to those statements.
I guess I’m just wondering if Austria is crippled by constitutionally being unable to risk opening up and really looking at what’s under cover which has the potential of actually helping create a healthier society in the long run.

Clearly that “person” (and one has to stretch the
definition of the word “person” in order to apply

daughter’s whereabouts and situation and that the

After all — think about it — daughter runs away as a
very young teen; daughter mysteriously disappears
at the age of 18 (an age when she can both make
her own decisions and choose to get away from
her father and even bring charges against him); the
(convicted-rapist/arsonist) father gets a letter from
daughter 1 month after her disappearance which
ridiculously claims she has joined a cult and does
not want to have any contact with the family – yet
amazingly then later chooses (for 3 years in a row)
to simply leave 3 of her newborn babies on the
doorstep of very home that she tried to run away
from at least 2 X’s before and is “allegedly thought”
to have finally left in order to join some sort of
“phantom” cult (a “cult” which, unlike every other
cult, just somehow, seemingly has no desire to try
to indoctrinate the youth from birth, but rather it
simply allows it’s members to select a home –one
which in fact, is both not a part of the cult AND is
the very home from which the member ran in order
to join the cult —to raise their babies and kids of
the cult members) –ALL THE WHILE – the father
forbids ANYONE to ever for ANY REASON dare to
go ANYWHERE NEAR the mysterious basement
(which he always keeps locked, disappears to for

It was so refreshing to see your site and to see
that there are other people on the planet who
both do not buy into Rosemarie Fritzl’s lie of
“innocence via (alleged) ignorance” and also
feel that the media and the legal authorities
have been too easy on her ands too willing
to simply accept “her word” (rather than
do a true and complete investigation and,
therefore, let the evidence speak for itself)
From the time that poor Elisabeth was a small child,
Rosemarie Fritzl would leave her ALONE with that
monster, convicted rapist-husband of hers for months
on end — while she and the other Fritzl children would
rest on beaches in Italy while on months-long holidays.
She KNEW that her husband was a sex-pervert — both
due to the fact that he was a convicted-rapist as well as
a convicted-exhibitionist AND by the fact that she had,
herself accompanied him, on occasion, to “sex clubs”.
And, who can forget that it was Rosemarie who also
absolutely REFUSED TO TESTIFY at all against her
rapist-husband at his rape/imprisonment trial that
the Austrian authorities finally held against him.
Not to mention the fact that experts have testified
at the trial that the basement / dungeon built by
her convicted rapist-husband was actually NOT
SOUNDPROOF (as Rosemarie and others tried to
claim) — but rather, sounds ranging from screams
to cries to pipe-clanging can be heard from that
very area (as the former tenants had also alleged).
This is barely even touching on all the mountains
of evidence that have come out about Rosemarie
Fritzl and the fact that it appears more likely that
Rosemarie held some sort of either overt or perhaps
“silent” (via “turning a blind eye and deaf ear”) type
of “contract” with her convicted-rapist husband that
– as far as she was concerned — “Elisabeth was his to
do with as he pleased” and that she (Rosemarie) would
simply make the conscious choice to pretend that she
was “blind, deaf and dumb” (as far as noticing or caring
about the abuse of poor Elisabeth was at all concerned).
Remember that, up until he was discovered, Josef had
made a lot of money and Rosemarie Fritzl was able to,
with that money, live in a very luxurious lifestyle –
it it does not appear that she was willing to part with any
portion of that lifestyle “just to” protect her own daughter.
There is JUST TOO MUCH EVIDENCE which proves
that Rosemarie simply had no reason to not have
at least ’suspected’ that “Elisabeth’s dissappearance”
was somehow connected to that rapist-husband of
hers and his mysterious secret basement/bunker.

On top of all of her many other “sins of omission”,

It appears that this refusal-to-testify may be rooted

I read somewhere that Rosemarie Fritzl is having a hard time in Austria. It seems to me from what I read—-that most people in Austria do not buy into her claim of innocense. Most people there are very upset with her. She even said something like this “What can I do, people are going to believe what they want to, no matter what I say”.
I also can’t just accept that she did not at least suspect something, and look into it for herself—especially when her husband would make frequent trips to THAILAND. THAILAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the country where sexual sicko’s go to have sex with children—legally. Everyone knows that. That is common knowledge. You’re going to tell me that she actually thought that he was there to go sightseeing?????!!!!!!!!!
She knows her husband is a sexual predator, and he goes to Thailand every-so-often. Including all the other evidence-she could not put 1+1 together? Come on!!!!!!!!! While in Thailand, she had the whole house to herself for long periods of time (and he took other vacations as well), what kind of wife would not go down there and see for herself ‘what is the big secret down here, that I am forbidden to enter, and see for myself?’.

Thanks for a well-written and thought out post on this. When I initially read the early reports of how and when this bunker was constructed, my first thought was “How did his wife not suspect anything with the entire backyard being dug up, twice??” It was said that the swimming pool was the cover-up premise, but any fool can see the difference between a basement and a pool being constructed in their own backyard. Couldn’t she fathom that he really did not need all that space just to draw up engineering blueprints?
The second thing I questioned is that the metal door weighs 300kg (over 660 pounds) and couldn’t possibly have been installed just by Fritzl and Elisabeth. There was a third person, at least, someone who knows about the bunker and last saw Elisabeth before her disappearance.
Rosemarie had to know about the early abuses – a mother knows when her child is being abused. She did not question the abuse, the construction, her own daughter’s disappearance, the babies, the food and diaper deliveries, the laundry, the time he spent down there – all very obviously suspicious. She risked losing her lavish lifestyle, and possibly her life if she did question him, even if she did so anonymously, and/or while he was already locked away. But what kind of mother wouldn’t risk her life to save her child’s? Has she asked herself this? Has anyone on this case, anyone at all wondered this?
The investigators are really dropping the ball, to say the least, by not further questioning this woman as an accomplice to multiple heinous crimes. Thanks for pointing it out.
